- In what it describes as the "largest counterfeit musical instrument seizure on record," CBP recently seized over 3,000 counterfeit Gibson guitars at the Los Angeles/Long Beach seaport, the agency said Nov. 26. The guitars would have been worth $18,742,820 had they been genuine. CBP worked in conjunction with Homeland Security Investigations, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and Gibson representatives to intercept the cargo, which arrived in ocean containers from Asia. CBP’s Consumer Products and Mass Merchandising Center of Excellence assisted in estimating the value of the shipment. Gibson confirmed that the guitars were counterfeit as real ones are made in the U.S., according to CBP. (here)
- CBP is extending its review of CBP Form 3499, Application and Approval to Manipulate, Examine, Sample or Transfer Goods, which is used to perform various operations on merchandise located at a CBP-approved bonded facility. Comments are due by Dec. 27. CBP said it's renewing the expiration date while updating the burden hours to reflect current usage. (here)
- CBP is extending its review of CBP Form 247, Cost Submission, which it uses to assist in correctly calculating the duty on imported merchandise. This form includes details on actual costs and helps the agency determine which costs are dutiable and which are not, according to a notice. Comments are due by Dec. 27. (here)
- CBP is extending its review of how owners or lessees desiring to establish a bonded warehouse must make written application to the CBP port director of the port where the warehouse is located. Comments are due by Dec. 27. (here)
- The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is extending its review of the collection of information on the identification of imported explosives materials. Comments are due by Dec. 27. (here).
