APHIS Proposes Changes to Imports of Fruit From New Zealand
The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service is seeking to remove the requirement that fruit imported from New Zealand include a phytosanitary certificate with an additional declaration stating that the fruit is free of the light brown apple moth (LBAM), it said in a notice.

APHIS currently requires that fruit imported from New Zealand have that certificate. But after APHIS prepared a commodity import evaluation document, it determined to remove the requirement for the additional declaration. Should APHIS proceed, the agency would revise the Agricultural Commodity Import Requirements database regarding LBAM requirements for fruit imported from New Zealand into the U.S. These proposed changes would harmonize domestic and import requirements, APHIS said.
APHIS is accepting comments through Jan. 24.
