Census Offers Tips for Conveyance Name, Port of Unlading Errors in AES

Response code 123 is a fatal error for when the conveyance name or carrier name is missing, and the mode of transportation requires the conveyance name to be reported. Census said the name of the transport conveyance must be reported for the major modes of transportation: vessel, air, rail and truck. The filer should verify the mode of transportation and the conveyance name or carrier name, correct the shipment and resubmit.
Response code 138 is another fatal error for when the port of unlading code is missing. All vessel shipments, and any air shipments between the U.S. and Puerto Rico, must provide a code for the foreign port where the exported merchandise is unloaded from the exporting carrier. Filers should verify the port of unlading code, correct the shipment and resubmit.
