House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Rep. Jason Smith, R-Mo., called on the Biden administration to either start a USMCA dispute or initiate a Section 301 investigation to punish Canada for passing a retroactive tax on digital services.

“America will not stand by quietly while Canada embraces discriminatory taxes on Americans that undermine the U.S. economy and our historic trade partnership. Even worse, these taxes are retroactive, going back over two years. This is a step in the wrong direction and deserves a swift response," he said.
