WTO Needs to 'Dig Deep' to Conclude Fisheries Subsidies Text Before 2024, Chair Says
More "intensive work" still remains if World Trade Organization members want to set a final negotiating text on fisheries subsidies before the 13th Ministerial Conference in February, they said during a negotiating session this month.

WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and Iceland's Einar Gunnarsson, chair of the discussions, said the talks have so far been constructive. But Gunnarsson also said negotiators aren't on track to meet the December target set by senior officials during an October meeting.
There is "still is a bit of time left,” Gunnarsson said. "I sense a strong, continued ambition amongst all of you to make this work. That means we have to go into overtime, we have to dig deep, have the energy and stamina to make good use of the time that remains before the end of the year."
