WTO Panel Ends After China Drops Duties on Australian Barley

A World Trade Organization dispute panel issued a report Aug. 24 concluding the panel's work following China and Australia's agreement regarding China's antidumping and countervailing duties on Australian barley.

Australia launched the case in 2020, alleging the duties violated elements of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade 1994, the Anti-Dumping Agreement and the Agreement on Subsidies and Countervailing Measures. In April, the parties requested that the panel halt its work to allow the countries to reach an agreement.

Earlier this month, China rescinded the duties on Australian barley following discussions with Australia (see 2308040064). Australia welcomed the move at that time, and its trade minister said he expects a similar process to unfold in addressing Chinese duties on Australian wine, with rescission the outcome of that as well.
