CBP Says Revocation of Rubber Gloves WRO Followed Close Coordination With Company

CBP's withdrawal of the Withhold Release Order on disposable rubber gloves made by a company in Malaysia (see 2003240066) followed an intensive information-sharing effort between the manufacturer and CBP, the agency said in a news release. The agency said it revoked the WRO “based on recent information obtained by CBP showing the company is no longer producing the rubber gloves under forced labor conditions.” CBP issues WROs to prevent imports of goods suspected of involving forced labor in the manufacturing process. The 2019 WRO applied to Disposable Rubber Gloves manufactured in Malaysia by WRP Asia Pacific Sdn. Bhd.

The “process for revoking this WRO is a result of close, continuous communication between CBP and WRP Asia Pacific Sdn. Bhd to address concerns over working conditions and adherence to the International Labor Organization’s labor standards,” the agency said. “CBP provided feedback to the company to adjust their manufacturing and labor practices and ensure that their supplies are compliant with U.S. and international labor standards.“ CBP’s Executive Assistant Commissioner for the Office of Trade Brenda Smith described the revocation as “an example of the mutually beneficial and positive results that occur when importers and manufacturers work with CBP to achieve common goals.”
