Silicon Metal: Commerce Postpones Preliminary CV Duty Determinations

The Commerce Department is extending until Aug. 7 the deadline for its preliminary determination in the countervailing duty investigation on silicon metal from Australia (C-602-811), Brazil (A-351-851) and Kazakhstan (A-834-808), it said (here). The agency decided to postpone after the domestic producer that requested the investigation asked for an extension. The preliminary determination was originally due June 1. Cash deposits of estimated CV duties can only be collected after the preliminary determination, although cash deposits can be made retroactive 90 days from the preliminary determination if Commerce finds “critical circumstances.”
