the Customs Self Assessment importer program, a trusted trader program previously only offered to importers based in Canada. The U.S. and Canada also announced the formal opening of an eGate pilot project at the Peace Bridge crossing between Fort Erie, Ontario and Buffalo, New York that aims to allow NEXUS members quicker passage through the border. The projects are part of the Beyond the Border Initiative. “Our continued success in achieving Beyond the Border milestones illustrates our commitment to a strong partnership between the United States and Canada,” said CBP Commissioner Gil Kerlikowske in a statement. “The harmonization of trusted trader and traveler programs benefits those crossing the border as well as the economic security of both countries.”
