Senate Set to Consider Omnibus Commerce, Transportation and Agriculture Appropriations Bill

The Senate is expected to begin on June 17 consideration of an omnibus bill that incorporates appropriations for Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration and Related Agencies, Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies (CJS), and Transportation,Housing and Urban Development and Related Agencies (THUD). The Senate Appropriations Committee advanced both the CJS and THUD bills at the beginning of June (see 14060323). The committee approved the agriculture appropriations legislation in late May (see 14052303).

Senate Appropriations Committee Chairwoman Barbara Mikulski, D-Md., will lead debate on the Senate floor, and the amendment process could take the rest of the week to complete, said a committee spokesman. The House approved its CJS legislation in May (see 14060202). The House has yet to take up the THUD bill and adjourned debate on the agriculture appropriations legislation last week (see 14061220). The White House vowed to veto both the House THUD and agriculture appropriations bills.
