FWS Continues Suspension of Imports of Zimbabwe Elephant Hunting Trophies

A decision by the Fish and Wildlife Service to suspend imports of elephant trophies from Zimbabwe will continue, said the agency in a Federal Register notice. FWS originally suspended imports of elephant trophies from Zimbabwe (and Tanzania) on April 4 while it gathers more information in light of a decline in the species’ numbers. The suspension applies only to trophies from elephants taken on or after April 4. Elephants hunted in previous hunting seasons are still eligible to be imported, provided all CITES and other import requirements are met, said FWS.
