CBP, German Customs Seize 20,000 Zolpidem Pills in San Francisco

CBP and the German Customs Investigations Bureau Zollkriminalamt seized 20,000 Zolpidem pills at the San Francisco International Mail Facility, CBP said on Aug. 12. Acting on information provided by Zollkriminalamt, CBP officers discovered and seized the pills, a schedule IV controlled substance, which were hidden in 10 parcels originating in India that had transited in Germany.

“Timely information from Zollkriminalamt and excellent targeting and coordination efforts by CBP’s Pharmaceuticals Center of Excellence and Expertise resulted in this significant interception, keeping these harmful pills off of our streets,” said Robert Perez, Director of Field Operations in New York. German Customs liaison Dr. Ulrike Berg-Haas said that German customs would continue to work with CBP and that “this will not be the last joint operation.”
