Obama Nominates Former NY Congresswoman for CPSC, Former Census Employee for Bureau Director
President Obama nominated former New York Congresswoman Ann Marie Buerkle to be a commissioner on the Consumer Product Safety Commission May 23. A former lawyer and nurse, Buerkle served in Congress from 2011-2013. She served as New York Assistant Attorney General from 1997 to 2009.

Obama also nominated John Thompson, current president of the National Opinion Research Center at the University of Chicago, to be director of the Census (here). Thompson has served as president of NORC, a social science research center, since 2008. Thompson is no stranger to the Census Bureau, serving in various positions there since 1975. Thompson is also a member of the Committee on National Statistics with the National Academy of Sciences.
