Adaptix Seeks to Bar Imports of Ericsson's LTE Base Stations for Wireless Networks
Adaptix Inc. filed a request Jan. 24 for a Section 337 patent investigation of Ericsson’s 6000-series wireless base stations for LTE applications, which are used by wireless carriers to build networks. Adaptix is requesting a limited exclusion order barring imports of infringing base stations from Ericsson, as well as a cease and desist order against Ericsson barring sales of the products.

According to the complaint, Ericsson manufactures its 6000-series base stations in Estonia, China, India, and Brazil, then imports them into the U.S. Ericsson then sells the base stations to wireless providers in the U.S., including AT&T, Verizon Wireless, and MetroPCS. The base stations infringe an Adaptix patent that increases throughput between a base station and mobile-subscriber units, Adaptix said.
Ericsson is in no position to say barring imports of the products would hurt the public interest, because Ericsson filed a similar complaint against Samsung in 2012, Adaptix said. In its complaint, Ericsson admitted that the base stations are “luxury devices” and “not necessary for any health or welfare need,” Adaptix said.
