Canadian Government Notices for Jan. 7

The government of Canada issued the following trade-related notices for Jan. 7 (Note that some may also be given separate headlines.)

  • Canada increases low value threshold. The CBSA and U.S. Customs announced the increase of the value threshold for imports from CA$1,600 to CA$2,500 and from the U.S. increased its low value shipment threshold from $2,000 to $2,500 for informal entries. (here)
  • Canada-Benin agreement. The Harper Government announced the signing of Canada-Benin Foreign Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement (FIPA) which will protect and promote Canadian investments as well as promote foreign investment in Canada. (here)
  • NAFTA textile/apparel TPL utilization. DFAIT updated the 2012 NAFTA textile and apparel tariff preference level utilization rate for imports and exports. (here)
  • Carbon steel welded pipe. The CBSA initiated a re-investigation to update the normal values and export prices of certain steel welded pipe originating in or exported from Taiwan, India, Oman, Korea, Thailand and UAE which will conclude on May 7, 2013. (here)
  • China hot-rolled steel plate. The President of the CBSA, following an investigation on the expiry review of certain hot-rolled steel plates originating in or exported from China, determined the continuation of dumping. (here)
