  • EU-U.S. working groups. Lawmakers of the European Parliament and the U.S. Congress meeting in Jacksonville, Florida, on December 3-4 agreed to joint working groups on financial markets and stability, as well as transport security, and possibly a third working group on agriculture and food safety.   • Customs cooperation. The European Council issued a summary of the conclusions it adopted regarding customs cooperation with eastern neighboring countries, including developing safe and fluid trade lanes, improving risk management systems, foster customs modernization, etc. (here)
  • Trade negotiations with Georgia, Moldova. The EU decided to launch negotiations on a deep and comprehensive free trade area with Georgia and Moldova to boost economic growth and investment with the Eastern European partners. (here)
  • Motorbike standards. A European Parliament committee adopted a report on a common system of type approval for powered two-wheel vehicles ranging from mopeds to heavy motorcycles. The committee says that under the new rules, anti-lock braking systems must be fitted to all bikes with engines above 51 cc. (here)
  • Call for climate deal by 2015. The European Parliament is calling for a binding global deal on climate change to be agreed by 2015. The EU Chair of the European Parliament delegation stated during the UN climate change conference on December 7, 2011 that the "ping pong blame game" between the US and China is holding up progress towards this deal and must come to end."
