GSP Coalition Expects House to Vote on GSP/MPF/TAA Bill on Oct 12

According to the Coalition for GSP, on October 12, 2011 the House is expected to vote on the Senate-passed version of H.R. 2832, a bill to reinstate the GSP program retroactive to its expiration date, renew and revise Trade Adjustment Assistance, and make various MPF adjustments.

(On September 22, 2011, the Senate approved the House-passed version of H.R. 2832 after adding a provision to renew and revise Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA), as well as a provision to raise the merchandise processing fee for formal entries and then decrease it, and require the MPF for formal and informal entries to be prepaid and then reconciled for a certain 2012 time period1.

Since the Senate-passed version of H.R. 2832 is different from the one passed by the House on September 7, 2011, H.R. 2832 went back to the House for action.)

Rule for H.R. 2832 Would Allow One Hour of Debate

On October 6, 2011, the House Rules Committee granted a rule providing for the consideration of H.R. 2832. The rule provides one hour of debate, equally divided and controlled by the House Ways and Means Committee Chairman and Ranking Member.
