  • Civil society meeting on GSP, etc. The EU held a civil society meeting to provide an overview of the European Commission's proposal to drastically revise the EU's Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) and to the GSP+ program. An update was also provided on the EU's Economic Partnership Agreements (EPAs) with Papua New Guinea, etc. (here)
  • G-20 asked to invest in food security. The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) brought together representatives of the UN, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), G-20 presidency, etc. who agreed to recommend to the G-20 greater international coordination and capacity-building for farmers as possible solutions to global food security challenges.   • Strengthened Libya restrictions. The EU Council has adopted legislation to strengthen restrictive measures imposed on the Libyan regime, placing an additional person and an additional entity to the lists of designated persons and entities subject to travel restrictions and an assets freeze.   • Strengthened Syria restrictions. The EU Council has adopted legislation to strengthen restrictive measures imposed on the Syrian regime, extending the visa ban and assets freeze imposed on 13 officials and associates of the Syrian regime on May 9, 2011, to 10 more individuals, including President Bashar a-Assad.   • Strengthened Iran restrictions. The EU Council has adopted legislation to strengthen the restrictive measures imposed on Iran due to concerns about its nuclear program. It placed a number of additional names on the lists of designated persons and entities subject to EU autonomous measures (travel restrictions and assets freeze) etc. (here)
