Senate Staff Uncovers Chinese Suppliers Willing to Subvert AD/CV Laws
Senator Wyden has posted a press release announcing that his staff conducted an experiment to find out how easy it would be to find a Chinese supplier willing to engage in customs fraud to avoid paying U.S. anti-dumping and countervailing duties (AD/CVD).

The press release states that using an email account to pose as a fictitious American company interested in importing Chinese products without paying U.S. duties, a single Wyden staffer spent a half hour a day emailing companies on one of China’s largest business to business e-commerce platforms. After two weeks, the Wyden staffer had emails from ten different Chinese companies interested in committing fraud. Through email correspondence, Chinese manufacturers of products subject to AD/CVD orders ranging from steel nails to diamond saw blades expressed interest in avoiding these orders.
