Senate Foreign Relations Schedules Markup for Defense Trade Treaty Implementation Bill
On September 21, 2010, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee will hold a markup of S. 3581, the Defense Trade Treaty Implementation Act of 2010, with an amendment in the nature of a substitute. Among other things, S. 3581 would amend the Arms Export Control Act to: (1) authorize the President to implement and enforce a specified defense trade treaty with the United Kingdom and a specified defense trade treaty with Australia; and (2) provide that upon treaty implementation each such country would be exempt from its treaty related licensing requirements for exports of defense articles.
