Chamber Calls for Passage of Pakistan/Afghanistan ROZ Bill, Domestic Textile Groups Oppose
On August 25, 2010, the Chamber of Commerce sent a letter to Secretary of State Clinton and U.S. Trade Representative Kirk expressing support for legislation to create Reconstruction Opportunity Zones in Afghanistan and Pakistan. In light of the recent floods in Pakistan, the Chamber urges Congressional approval of such legislation on an urgent basis.

In its letter, the Chamber urges the expansion of the legislation’s reach to include additional products (e.g., cotton trousers and shirts) and areas (e.g., areas of Pakistan that are more likely to attract investment). On September 1, 2010, six domestic textile and apparel associations sent a letter to Clinton and Kirk opposing the Chamber’s proposal to expand the product scope and geographic reach of ROZ legislation.
