Among others, an official from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) testified at the hearing. The following are highlights of his testimony:
U.S. Reconstruction Efforts Focus on Infrastructure and Agriculture
U.S. government investments in the reconstruction effort will focus on four key sectors -- infrastructure, including housing and energy; agriculture; health and other basic services; and rule of law, governance, and security.
U.S. to Help Haiti Develop Increased Access to International Markets
As the U.S. works to help Haiti develop infrastructure, it seeks to enable increased access to international markets via a secondary port; etc.
U.S. to Assist Haiti in Improving its Ability to Export Agricultural Goods
For the agricultural sector, the U.S. plans to assist Haiti in improving its ability to export cash crops such as mangoes and coffee.
