Senate Passes One Year Extension of GSP and ATPA (President Expected to Sign)
On December 22, 2009, the Senate passed H.R. 4284, a bill to extend the Generalized System of Preferences and Trade Preference Act/Andean Trade Promotion and Drug Eradication Act (ATPA/ATPDEA) through December 31, 2010, clearing the measure for the President.
FY 2010 DoD Appropriations Act Signed into Law
On December 19, 2009, the President signed into law H.R. 3326, the "Department of Defense Appropriations Act, 2010," which provides FY 2010 appropriations for Department of Defense (DOD) military programs including funding for Overseas Contingency Operations, and extends various expiring authorities and other non-defense FY 2010 appropriations.
USTR & Treasury Nominations Hearing in Senate Finance Committee
On December 23, 2009, the Senate Finance Committee will hold a hearing to consider the nominations of Dr. Lael Brainard to be Under Secretary of the Treasury, Michael Punke to be Deputy U.S. Trade Representative, Dr. Islam Siddiqui to be Chief Agricultural Negotiator, Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, and others.
Senator Applauds DHS Decision to Extend REAL ID Deadline
Senator Collins (R), Ranking Member of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, has issued a statement applauding the Administration's decision to extend the Dec. 31 deadline that states had to comply with the REAL ID Act, giving the American traveling public a reprieve over the holidays.
