The Foreign Trade Zones Board is requesting public comment by July 14, 2009, on a staff proposal to revise the format of annual reports that are submitted by zone grantees to the Foreign Trade Zones Board. The revisions are intended to clarify the information that is being requested and focus on the information that is most important for oversight of the FTZ program. 2. EPA Revokes All Tolerances for Carbofuran

Effective August 13, 2009, the Environmental Protection Agency is revoking all tolerances for carbofuran, as its use does not meet safety standards in the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FFDCA). Potential affected entities include those involved in crop production, animal production, food manufacturing, and pesticide manufacturing. 3. FDA Guidance on Food Labeling: Health Claims for Calcium, Vitamin D, and Osteoporosis

The Food and Drug Administration is announcing the availability of a guidance for industry entitled ''Food Labeling: Health Claims; Calcium and Osteoporosis, and Calcium, Vitamin D, and Osteoporosis - Small Entity Compliance Guide.'' The guidance is being issued on a final rule published in the Federal Register of September 29, 2008, as corrected on November 12, 2008. 4. Peanut Producers Vote to Continue Peanut Promotion Order

The Agricultural Marketing Service reports that Peanut producers have voted to continue the Peanut Promotion, Research, and Information Order. The vote was taken in a referendum conducted by AMS from April 2 to 30, 2009. 5. Woman Pleads Guilty of Violating Lacey Act by Importing Sea Turtle Shell Parts for Guitar Picks

The Justice Department reports that Qing Song pled guilty yesterday to one felony count of violating the Lacey Act, and was sentenced to 10 months of home confinement and a $2,000 fine. Song was indicted in March for her involvement in the illegal trade of endangered sea turtle parts. In pleading guilty, she admitted that from 2005 to 2007 she brought Hawksbill sea turtle shell parts from China into the U.S. in the form of guitar picks or raw shell that could be used to make guitar picks. 6. DDTC Updates Commodity Jurisdiction Guidelines

The Directorate of Defense Trade Controls has updated its Guidelines for Preparing Commodity Jurisdiction Requests to make three minor amendments since its original May 2008 publication: (1) a link to its website has been added for information on registration and licensing; (2) the CJ process now indicates that one original and eight copies of a CJ request should be submitted; and (3) a new CJ analyst contact has been added to replace a previous contact. 7. OFAC Adds One Individual to SDN List

8. EC Reports GHG Emissions of Participants in Trading System Fell 3.06% in 2008

The European Commission reports that emissions of greenhouse gases from European Union businesses participating in the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) fell 3.06% in 2008 compared with a year earlier, according to the information provided by Member State registries. With the 6.5% reduction in emission allowances that the Commission has secured for the second trading period, the EU ETS really started to make a difference to emissions in 2008. Last year marked the beginning of the second trading period of the EU ETS, which runs from 2008 to 2012.
