APHIS Updates its Instructions for PPQ Form 505 Lacey Act Plant/Plant Product Imports
The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service has updated certain instructions that appear on PPQ Form 505, the Lacey Act Amendments Plant and Plant Product Declaration (for imported plants and plant products), since its original December 2008 posting.

Use Description, Examples, Unit of Measure, Submission Address Updated
APHIS has updated the PPQ Form 505 instructions for the following data elements:
Section 10-use not required if unknown, new use example. APHIS has updated Section 10, entitled "Description of the Merchandise," to add the following statement: "If the use is unknown, enter only the name of the product (example: lumber)."
APHIS has also amended Section 10 to provide an updated use example (wooden spoons for kitchenware).
Section 17-unit of measure added. Section 17, entitled "Unit of Measure," has been updated to include bf-board feet.
Section 18-example updated to include species. Section 18, "% Recycled Material," contains an updated product example, Tables made of Mahogany, which includes the genus and species of the plant in the product (previously an example did not include the species, and instead listed spp.).
Section 19-address and instructions for paper submission. APHIS has added a new Section 19, "Submission of Paper Declaration," which states the following:
Importers should have the form available for Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to review at the port of entry. After CBP clears the shipment, the importer must mail the form to the USDA at the following address:
