1. U.S. and South Korea Discuss FTA During Secretary Clinton's Visit

2. Ways & Means Committee Hearing on FY 2010 Budget Proposal

The House Ways and Means Committee will hold a hearing on March 3, 2009 on President Obama's budget proposals for fiscal year 2010. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner is the sole witness. 3. Representatives Send Letter to President on Japan's Currency

Representatives Frank and Levin, Chairs of the House Financial Services Committee and Ways and Means Trade Subcommittee, respectively, sent a letter to President Obama requesting that he urge Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso to resist recent calls to devalue the yen as a means to stimulate Japanese exports at the expense of the U.S. and other economies. 4. Long Beach Posts Information on Clean Truck Fee Exemptions

The Port of Long Beach has announced that as a general rule, all trucks funded without Clean Trucks financing are eligible for an exemption from the Clean Truck Fee if they meet the 2007 emission standard. The exemption is 50% for clean diesel trucks and a 100% exemption for LNG and alternative-fuel trucks acquired without Clean Trucks financing. For more information, see the CTF exemption sheet. 5. FDA Direct Final Rule on FDAAA Maximum Civil Money Penalty Amounts

The Food and Drug Administration has issued a direct final rule to confirm the effective date of March 27, 2009, for a November 12, 2008 direct final rule that amends the agency's regulations to include the new Food and Drug Administration Amendments Act of 2007 (FDAAA) penalties, among other things. 6. BIS Final Rule Removes Person from Entity List, Clarifies Two Others

The Bureau of Industry and Security is amending the Export Administration Regulations, effective February 24, 2009, by removing Britestone of Hong Kong from the Entity List (Supplement No. 4 to Part 744). This rule also clarifies the address of Antcorp System and Mohd Ansari, both of the same address in Malaysia, on the Entity List. 7. USDA and FDA CODEX Public Meeting on Contaminants in Food

The USDA's Office for Food Safety and the Food and Drug Administration are sponsoring a public meeting on March 5, 2009 to discuss agenda items and draft U.S. positions for the 3rd Session of the Codex Committee on Contaminants in Foods (CCCF) of the Codex Alimentarius Commission, which will be held in The Netherlands, from March 23-27, 2009. 8. CBSA Concludes AD/CV Re-Investigation of Certain Carbon Steel Fasteners from China, Chinese Taipei

Canada Border Services Agency has posted a notice of its conclusion of its re-investigation of the normal values, export prices, and amounts of subsidy of certain carbon steel fasteners originating in or exported from China, and the normal values and export prices of certain carbon steel and stainless steel fasteners originating in or exported from Chinese Taipei, pursuant to the Special Import Measures Act (SIMA).
