CBP Posts 2008 Trade Symposium Draft Agenda (Registration is Full)

U.S. Customs and Border Protection has posted the draft agenda for the 2008 Trade Symposium, which will be held on October 29-31, 2008 in Washington, DC.

According to CBP, the following panel discussions and presentations will take place during the upcoming Trade Symposium:

Forum with CBP senior management - this panel will provide CBP managers an opportunity to discuss their offices' key program initiatives and strategies for the coming year.

World Customs Organization Private Sector Consultative Group (PSCG) - this presentation will highlight the role and focus of the PSCG.

CBP international presence and activities - this panel will discuss CBP operations outside of the U.S. and how they help facilitate U.S. trade. CBP attachs will provide an overview of their primary areas of concentration in their respective countries.

Nexus between security and trade programs - this panel will provide an opportunity for CBP to discuss with the trade the critical link between the current and future security and trade goals. Topics will include data and risk management, moving work away from the border and self-governance.

Regulatory change: a year in review - this panel will provide an overview of the rulemaking process and a review of the notable regulatory changes that have occurred within the past year.

Partnership in action: COAC, TSN, CESAC - this panel will focus on trade community and government collaboration undertaken to develop more effective policies and programs. Use case studies of past policy initiatives will be reviewed along with an overview of the respective trade organizations.

Implementing recent legislative mandates: Lacey Act, softwood lumber, first sale, Burma JADE Act - this panel will provide status on implementation plans for a number of recent legislative mandates.

In addition to panels and presentations, CBP states that break-out sessions on the following topics will also be held:

  • Importer Self Assessment (ISA) best practices for compliance
  • Intellectual property rights initiatives and trade facilitation
