The leadership of the House Energy and Commerce Committee has posted a "discussion draft" of the Food and Drug Administration Globalization Act of 2008 to tackle the problem of tainted imports, create a registry of food and drug importers, etc. The Committee will be holding a hearing on this issue on April 24, 2008. 2. House Ways and Means Notice on Add'l Miscellaneous Trade Bills

The House Ways and Means Committee announced that it is seeking comments by June 2, 2008 on 11 additional miscellaneous tariff and duty suspension bills. These bills had been inadvertently omitted from the Committee's initial request for comments as part of its miscellaneous trade bill process. 3. LA Issues Public Bulletin on LA/LB Import Specialist Teams

U.S. Customs and Border Protection's Port of Los Angeles issued a Public Bulletin that updates the commodities and personnel assigned to import specialist and entry teams at the Los Angeles/Long Beach Seaport. 4. APHIS Corrects Its Final Rule on Uncooked Pork, Pork Products

The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service issued a correction to its April 2, 2008 final rule on the importation of uncooked pork and pork products that originated in a region considered to be free of classical swine fever (CSF) and are processed in a region where CSF exists. 5. BIS Sensors & Instrumentation Committee to Hold Partially Open Meeting

6. ITA Fact Sheet on February Export Stats, Includes Info on Colombia TPA

The International Trade Administration has issued its fact sheet on February 2008 export statistics. The fact sheet includes a section on the U.S.-Colombia Trade Promotion Agreement. 7. FSIS Posts Updated Meat/Poultry/Egg Inspection Directory

The Food Safety and Inspection Service has posted an updated "Meat, Poultry and Egg Product Inspection Directory," a listing of establishments that produce meat, poultry, and/or egg products regulated by FSIS. 8. WCO to Host 2008 World Customs Forum on Rules of Origin

The World Customs Organization reports that it will host the World Customs Forum 2008, regarding rules of origin, on June 16-17, 2008 in Brussels, Belgium. 9. EC Updates its List of Banned Airlines

The European Commission has issued a press release announcing that it has adopted the seventh update of the "blacklist" of airlines subject to an operating ban in the European Union. The EC states that it is imposing a ban on all operations of an additional Ukrainian airline (Ukraine Cargo Airways) as well as on all operations of the Congolese carrier Hewa Bora Airways. At the same time, the EC is closely monitoring the progress of corrective actions by carriers such as Mahan Air from Iran, TAAG Angola Airlines and all Indonesian carriers, all of which at this stage, remain on the list.
