BIS states that the new version of SNAP-R (Version 1.2) is expected to be in use beginning Monday, August 27, 2007.

(BIS has previously stated that SNAP-R enables exporters to submit export license applications, re-export applications, commodity classification requests, agriculture license exception notices, and associated supporting documents to BIS via the Internet. BIS sources have also previously stated that the use of SNAP-R is voluntary and paper forms may still be used for the submission of export license applications, etc.)

Changes with Version 1.2

According to BIS, some of the noticeable improvements with the new SNAP-R Version 1.2 include:

measurement updates (CTT to APP and MTOP to WT);

product/model number field on the electronic BIS-748P form will be increased from 15 to 30 characters;

the help desk phone number will be displayed when a user experiences account lockout; and

a rider will be added to all licenses approved for Hong Kong.

(See ITT's Online Archives or 01/12/07 and 11/17/06 news, 07011215 and 06111725, for BP summaries on the replacement of BIS' previous SNAP system with SNAP-R.)
