Update on the APHIS User Fees for Truck/Rail from Canada That Began June 1, 2007

The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service recently issued a news release announcing that, in coordination with U.S. Customs and Border Protection, it will enforce inspection and agricultural quarantine and inspection (AQI) user fee requirements for all commercial trucks and loaded railroad cars entering the U.S. from Canada beginning June 1, 2007.

(AQI user fees for commercial vehicles are collected by CBP for APHIS. AQI user fees for commercial vessels, commercial railroad cars, commercial aircraft, and international air passengers are paid directly to APHIS.)

Current APHIS AQI User Fees for All Modes and CBP User Fees for Trucks/Rail

According to APHIS and CBP, the current AQI user fee amounts for all modes, and the current CBP user fees for commercial trucks and rail, are as follows:

Commercial Trucks: $5.25 per entry; $105 annually (CBP's fee is an additional $5.50 per entry, for a total AQI/CBP fee of $10.75 per entry. CBP's annual fee is an additional $100, for a total AQI/CBP annual fee of $205)

Commercial Vessels (100 net tons or more): $490 per entry. After the 15th entry, no charge

Loaded Commercial Railroad Cars: $7.75 per entry (CBP's fee is an additional $8.25 per entry)

Commercial Aircraft: $70.50 per arrival

International Airline Passengers: $5 per arrival
