The Trucker reports that the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association, International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Public Citizen, the Sierra Club, and the Environmental Law Foundation, have filed a lawsuit in the Northern District of California requesting that the Department of Transportation and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration "comply with the law" for federal pilot programs and provide public notice and an opportunity for comment on a plan to allow approved Mexican carriers beyond the current southern border transition zone. 2. FDA to Test Imported Ingredients Used in Pet, Livestock and Human Food for Melamine
The Washington Post reports that the Food and Drug Administration will begin testing batches of six imported ingredients used in pet foods and livestock feed, as well as additives to human food, over concerns that a wide variety of Chinese vegetable protein products may be contaminated with the harmful component melamine. 3. DHS "Officially" Changes Two Bureau Names to ICE and CBP
The Department of Homeland Security has issued a notice in order to inform the public that, effective March 31, 2007, it has "officially" changed the name of the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and the name of the Bureau of Customs and Border Protection to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
