The Commerce Department has issued a press release stating that on March 23, 2007, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutierrez and National Economic Council Director Allan Hubbard announced the establishment of a U.S-Brazil CEO Forum, which will bring together American and Brazilian business leaders to identify ways to strengthen economic ties between the two countries. 2. PHMSA Issues Advisory on Proper Packing, Handling of Batteries Carried Aboard Aircraft
The Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) has issued an advisory to inform the traveling public and airline employees about the importance of properly packing and handling batteries and battery-powered devices when they are carried aboard aircraft. In its safety advisory, PHMSA suggests various practical measures for complying with the regulations and minimizing transportation risks (e.g. keeping batteries installed in electronic devices; keeping spare batteries in their original retail packaging; separating batteries from other metallic objects such as keys, coins and jewelry; etc.). 3. OFAC Designates 65 Individuals, 45 Entities Under Narcotics Sanctions
The Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has issued a notice which publishes the names of 65 newly-designated individuals and 45 newly-designated entities whose property and interests in property are blocked pursuant to Executive Order 12978, entitled "Blocking Assets and Prohibiting Transactions with Significant Narcotics Traffickers."
