2. Legislation Unveiled to Subject China, NMEs to Countervailing Duties

Washington Trade Daily reports that two House Ways and Means Committee members unveiled legislation (H.R. 1229) that would subject China and other non-market economies (NMEs) to U.S. countervailing (CV) duties. 3. USDA Announces Customer Service Line for Fruit and Vegetable Industry

According to Rodriguez O'Donnell Ross's February 2007 Trade and Transportation Update the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced the rollout of the Perishable Agricultural Commodities Act Customer Service Line for the fruit and vegetable industry. 4. State Dept. Administratively Debars Individual/Company for ITAR Violation

The State Department has issued a notice announcing that it has administratively debarred Henry L. Lavery III and Security Assistance International, Inc. for the period of December 12, 2006 until December 12, 2007, for, among other things, a lack of records required to be maintained under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). According to the State Department, reinstatement after December 12, 2007 is not automatic, but is contingent on full compliance with the terms of a consent agreement and evidence that the underlying problems that gave rise to the violations have been corrected. The State Department explains that debarred persons are generally ineligible to participate in activity regulated under the ITAR. 5. FTC Announces Workshop, Requests Comments on ID Authentication

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has issued a notice announcing a two-day public workshop and requesting public comment and participation to explore the role of authentication processes in preventing identity theft. The workshop will be held April 23-24, 2007 in Washington, DC. Written requests to participate as a panelist in the workshop must be filed on or before March 9, 2007. Written comments must be filed on or before March 23, 2007. 6. FSIS Proposes to Allow Exports of Poultry Products from Chile

The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has issued a proposed rule which would amend 9 CFR 381 to add Chile to the list of countries eligible to export poultry and poultry products to the U.S. FSIS states that reviews of Chile's laws, regulations, and inspection implementation show that its poultry inspection system requirements are equivalent to the relevant provisions of the Poultry Products Inspection Act and its implementing regulations. Comments must be received on or before April 27, 2007.
