BIS Solicits Speakers for Meeting of Deemed Export Advisory Committee
The Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) has issued a notice to solicit meeting speakers and presentations for the Deemed Export Advisory Committee (DEAC), which will meet on January 22, 2007 (and again on January 23, 2007). BIS states that the meeting location will be in Santa Clara, CA, with exact details to be announced in a subsequent Federal Register notice.

(BIS has previously stated that the DEAC will review the current deemed export policy and determine whether to recommend any changes. BIS stated that the DEAC's review will include, but not be limited to, the recommendations made in the Commerce Department's Office of Inspector General (OIG) report entitled "Deemed Export Controls May Not Stop the Transfer of Sensitive Technology to Foreign Nationals in the U.S.," which was issued in March 2004. BIS Solicits Speakers from Industry, Academia, Etc. for January 22 Meeting
BIS states that it would like to solicit speakers from industry, academia and all other stakeholders to address the DEAC members in the January 22, 2007 meeting in an open session on issues related to deemed exports and, in particular, their organizations' perspective and concerns related to U.S. deemed export control policies. BIS states that speakers may be selected on the basis of one or more of the following criteria:
Demonstrated experience in and knowledge of export control regulations;
Demonstrated ability to provide DEAC members with relevant information related to deemed export policies and issuers;
The degree to which the organization is impacted by the U.S. Government's export policies and regulations; and
Industry area or academic type of institution represented.
- commitments to address DEAC and brief outlines of topics to be discussed are due no later than 5:00 p.m. EST December 22, 2006
- prepared remarks/presentations for confirmed participants are due no later than 5:00 p.m. EST January 12, 2007
