CBP states that this guide explains the process of importing goods into the U.S., including informed compliance, invoices, duty assessments, classification and value, marking requirements, etc.

Updated Guide Covers Wide-Range of Information, Does Not Cover All Import Laws & Regulations, Etc.

According to CBP, the updated guide provides wide-ranging information about the importing process and import requirements.

CBP notes that it has made every effort to include essential requirements, but it is not possible for the guide to cover all import laws and regulations. CBP adds that this publication does not supersede or modify any provision of those laws and regulations.

CBP states that legislative and administrative changes are always under consideration and can occur at any time. Quota limitations on commodities are also subject to change.

Guide is Intended for General Purposes Only, Sole Reliance on it May Not Meet "Reasonable Care" Standard

CBP stresses that although the information in this guide is provided to promote understanding of, and compliance with, importing laws and regulations, the information provided here is for general purposes only. CBP adds that reliance solely on the information in this guide may not meet the "reasonable care" standard required of importers.

CBP notes that importers may also wish to obtain guidance from private-sector experts who specialize in importing, for example, licensed customs brokers, attorneys or consultants.
