CBP Makes Additional Revisions to CATAIR's Broker Download Chapter
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has issued an ABI administrative message regarding revisions to the Broker Download (BD) Chapter of the Customs and Trade Automated Interface Requirements (CATAIR).

CBP states programming went into production on November 4, 2006 to revise the BD Chapter. The BD Chapter changes addressed in this administrative message are in addition to the changes reported in an October 24, 2006 administrative message. The following are "highlights" of CBP's additional list of changes to the CATAIR BD Chapter:
Record 1B
- weight unit: change to 2A positions 45-46 codes LB and KG. Eliminate filler in position 46
Record 4B
- reference qualifier: add code "EP" for "Softwood Lumber Permit"
Record 0N
- code qualifier: change "AB" to "17"
Record 4N
- communications number: add note: "A number longer than 25 positions may be truncated"
Record 1I
- filler: change from 2AN to 1AN, position 6
Record 1C
- container/equipment length: change "not used. space fill" to "in rail AMS zeroes are returned here." "In truck AMS spaces are returned here."
Record 0D
- harmonized number: change "left justify the number and fill any remaining positions with zeros" to "left justify the number and fill any remaining positions with spaces"
- weight unit: change 1A to 2A, positions 32-33. Change description to "valid codes for rail AMS are:"
LB = pounds
KG = kilograms
"valid codes for truck AMS are:"
G = grams
L = pounds
K = kilograms
O = ounces
T = tons
New CATAIR BD Chapter Should Be Available Soon
In its message, CBP states that the new CATAIR BD Chapter should be available on the CBP Web site next week (has not been posted yet). CATAIR Chapters are available at http://www.cbp.gov/xp/cgov/import/operations_support/automated_systems/abi/catair/chapters/
