The Journal of Commerce (JoC) reports that multinational high-tech companies in China will continue to lose market share to their local counterparts, according to an industry study which found that Chinese companies are growing three times faster than multinationals. 2. Senate Confirms Mary Peters as Secretary of Transportation
On September 30, 2006, the Senate confirmed the nomination of Mary E. Peters as the Secretary of Transportation. According to the Department of Transportation (DOT), Peters is responsible for maintaining a safe, reliable, and efficient transportation system, while leading an agency that oversees air, maritime and surface transportation missions. 3. BIS' Sensors and Instrumentation TAC to Hold Partially Open Meeting
The Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) has issued a notice announcing that the Sensors and Instrumentation Technical Advisory Committee (SITAC) will hold a partially open meeting on October 24, 2006 in Washington, DC. The SITAC advises the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Export Administration on technical questions that affect the level of export controls applicable to sensors and instrumentation equipment and technology. 4. BIS Lists that Should be Checked When Performing Export & Reexport Transactions
The Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) has posted information to its Web site which provides links to and descriptions of several lists which may should be checked when performing export and reexport transactions. The lists cited by BIS include: (1) Denied Persons List, (2) Unverified List, (3) Entity List, (4) Specially Designated Nationals List, (5) Debarred List, (6) Nonproliferation Sanctions, and (7) General Order 3 to Part 736. 5. TSA Issues Draft Security, Privacy and Compliance Standards for Registered Traveler Program
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has issued a press release announcing that it has released draft Security, Privacy, and Compliance Standards for the Registered Traveler (RT) program. The draft standards are available on TSA's Web site and were open for comments until October 5, 2006. 6. AMS Announces Continuance of Blueberry Order
The Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) has issued a press release announcing that producers and importers of cultivated blueberries have voted in a Continuance Referendum to continue the Blueberry Promotion, Research, and Information Order. The order authorizes the U.S. Highbush Blueberry Council to conduct a coordinated program of promotion, research, and consumer and industry information in order to maintain and expand the market for cultivated blueberries.
