2. U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission to Meet Oct. 16-17

The U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission will hold a meeting on October 16 and 17, 2006 in Washington, DC in order to prepare its Annual Report to Congress regarding the national security implications and impact of the bilateral trade and economic relationship between the U.S. and China. 3. First Negotiated Bidding for 2007 Quotas for Chinese Textile Exports to the EU & U.S.

The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) has issued a press release announcing that China's Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) issued a notice on the first negotiated bidding for 2007 quotas for Chinese textile exports to the European Union (EU) and the U.S. on September 22, 2006. The HKTDC reports that textile products under certain categories for export to the U.S. and EU will be open for negotiated bidding. 4. FDA Posts Various Notices to its Web Site

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has posted the following notices to its Web site:

FDA statement on Foxy brand lettuce recall. FDA has posted to its Web site a statement on the initiation of a voluntary recall of green leaf lettuce distributed under the Foxy brand by The Nunes Company Inc., of Salinas, California. The recall was initiated because of E. coli contamination of water used to irrigate the lettuce plants in the field. The FDA states that, at this time, there has been no determination of whether the E. coli found is O157:H7 - the highly infectious type that can cause life-threatening foodborne illness in humans - or the more common, generally harmless strains of E. coli that usually do not cause disease.
