2. USDA Seeks Public Comment on a Petition to Deregulate Genetically Engineered Rice
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has issued a press release announcing that it is seeking public comment, on or before October 10, 2006, on a petition to deregulate rice genetically engineered (GE) to be tolerant to herbicides marketed under the brand name LibertyLink. The USDA states that in 1999, after thorough safety evaluations, USDA's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) deregulated two similar LibertyLink rice lines. Under petition, APHIS would extend its deregulation from the original two lines to include the rice line known as LLRICE601. 3. ITA Announces Business Development Mission to India will be Largest Ever
The International Trade Administration (ITA) has issued a press release announcing that its November business development mission to India will be the largest ever led by the federal government. According to the ITA, it has accepted the applications of 54 companies for participation in the November mission. 4. State Dept.'s Committee on International Communications/Policy Meets on October 5, 2006
The State Department has announced that its Advisory Committee on International Communications and Information Policy will hold an open meeting on October 5, 2006 in Washington, DC. According to the State Department, this committee provides a formal channel for regular consultation and coordination on major economic, social and legal issues and problems in international communications and information policy. Written requests and specified requested information for placement on the pre-clearance list for this meeting must be received no later than 5:00 p.m. on October 2, 2006. 5. BIS' DEAC to Hold Partially Open Meeting on October 12, 2006
The Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) has issued a notice announcing that the Deemed Export Advisory Committee (DEAC) will hold a partially open meeting on October 12, 2006 in Washington, DC. Topics of discussion for the public session will include current deemed export control policy issues and technology transfer issues, among other things.
