The President of the National Customs Brokers and Forwarders Association of America's (NCBFAA) has issued a letter to the Chair of the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) Subcommittee in the Office of the U.S Trade Representative (USTR) calling on the administration to work closely with Congress to ensure a timely, long-term renewal of the GSP beyond its December 31, 2006 expiration date. 2. CBP Final Rule Regarding Import Restrictions on Archaeological Material from Cyprus

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has issued a final rule, effective September 4, 2006, that amends 19 CFR Part 12 by reflecting that the bilateral agreement between Cyprus and the U.S. to impose certain import restrictions on archaeological material from Cyprus has been amended to include import restrictions which had previously been imposed on an emergency basis for certain Byzantine period ecclesiastical and ritual ethnological material. 3. Coalition Lobbies for Extension of AGOA Third Country Fabric Provision

A Coalition of businesses, trade associations, and non-governmental organizations in both the U.S. and Africa has requested that Congress extend the African Growth and Opportunity Act's (AGOA's) third country fabric provision until 2015. 4. BIS Materials Committee Partially Open Meeting

The Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) is announcing that its Materials Technical Advisory Committee will hold a partially open meeting on September 7, 2006 in Washington D.C. on the latest activities regarding the Chemicals Weapons Convention, among other things. 5. Public Roundtable on WIPO Work on Broadcasting Organizations

The Patent and Trademark Office (PTO) is announcing that it and the U.S. Copyright Office (USCO) will hold a public roundtable discussion on September 5, 2006 in Alexandria, VA concerning the work at the World Intellectual Property Organization in the Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights (SCCR) on a proposed Treaty on the Protection of the Rights of Broadcasting Organizations.
