On June 26, 2006, President Bush transmitted to Congress legislation and supporting documents to implement the U.S.-Oman Free Trade Agreement (FTA). Congress now has 90 legislative days to consider the implementing legislation, which cannot be amended. 1. President Submits U.S.-Oman FTA Implementing Legislation to Congress

2. PierPASS Changes Export Container Handling Procedures on Aug 7th

PierPASS Inc. has issued a press release announcing new procedures for handling export containers under the OffPeak program at the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. Beginning August 7, 2006, exporters delivering containers during peak hours will be required to claim their booking numbers before the containers arrive at the marine terminals. 3. USTR Announces Appointment of Chief Counsel for China Trade Enforcement

The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) has issued a press release announcing that the USTR has appointed Claire Reade to serve as Chief Counsel for China Trade Enforcement. The position was created as part of the USTR's review of U.S.-China trade relations. According to the press release, Reade will coordinate the USTR's efforts to ensure China's compliance with its international trade commitments. 4. USTR Announces Creation of New Intellectual Property Office

The Office of the USTR has also issued a press release announcing that the USTR has created a new Intellectual Property Office. According to the press release, the new office will have a special focus on priority countries, including China and Russia.
