Items that must be sent to port director where license was granted. According to CBP, the following must be sent to the port director where the Customs broker's license was granted:
Status Report (Triennial) 2006 and Fee Payment. (See ITT's Online Archives or 02/21/06 news, 06022110, for BP reminder of the February 28, 2006 due date for these reports/fees.)
Local or National Permit Fee Payment
Items that must be sent to each port director where broker has local permit. CBP states that the following items should be sent to each port director where the broker has a local permit:
Permit fee payments
Notice of a change in a broker's business address and organization (other than a change in ownership)
(CBP explains that if there is a change in the ownership of a broker and ownership shares in the broker are not publicly traded, the broker must immediately provide written notice to the appropriate port director(s), and also to the Assistant Commissioner, Office of Field Operations, CBP Headquarters.)
According to CBP, correspondence and payments inappropriately sent to CBP headquarters instead of the appropriate port directors put the broker at risk for delays and possible missed deadlines that could have serious business consequences.
CBP adds that it is not necessary to send CBP headquarters copies of correspondence with the port directors.
