2. Shippers Meet with White House to Discuss Negative Impact of Congestion Throughout Domestic Transportation System

American Shipper reports that on January 25, 2006, representatives from Macy's, Nike, Dell, Toys "R" Us and Target were scheduled to meet with Bush's domestic policy staff at the White House to discuss the negative impact of congestion throughout the domestic transportation system. The article states that the meeting was organized by American President Lines, as part of a year-long awareness campaign to draw attention to port, rail, aviation, and highway infrastructure problems. 7. State Dept Receives Application for Permit to Construct New Border Crossing in Arizona

The State Department has issued a notice stating that it has received an application for a Presidential Permit authorizing the construction, operation and maintenance of a new commercial border crossing at San Luis, Arizona, known hereafter as the "San Luis II" crossing. 5. State Dept Adopts as Final Interim Rule on DDTC Registration Fees, Etc.

The State Department's Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (DDTC) has issued a final rule, effective February 23, 2006, which adopts as final (without change) its interim rule which amended the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR, 22 CFR Parts 122 and 129) by increasing registration fees, changing the registration renewal period, and making other minor administrative changes. 6. Federal Register Publication of FMC's Notice of Investigation and Hearing on 9 Household Goods Moving Companies

The Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) has published in the January 24, 2006 Federal Register its Notice of Order of Investigation and Hearing (D/N 06-01) on whether nine household goods moving companies violated the 1984 Shipping Act and the FMC's regulations by operating as non-vessel operating common carriers without obtaining licenses from the FMC, etc. According to the FMC's notice, any person may file a petition for leave to intervene in accordance with 46 CFR 502.72. 8. BIS Transportation & Related Equipment TAC to Meet on February 9th

The Bureau of Industry and Security's (BIS') Transportation and Related Equipment Technical Advisory Committee (TRETAC) will hold an open meeting on February 9, 2006 in Washington, DC. According to BIS, this committee provides advice on technical questions that affect the level of export controls applicable to transportation and related equipment or technology. 4. ITA Announces Meeting of the President's Export Council

The International Trade Administration (ITA) has issued a notice announcing that the President's Export Council was scheduled to hold an open meeting on December 6, 2005 in Washington, DC. The meeting was to include discussion of trade priorities and initiatives, subcommittee activity, and proposed letters of recommendation.
