PierPASS has issued a press release announcing that more than half a million truck trips have been diverted from peak daytime traffic since the start of the OffPeak program on July 23, 2005, relieving congestion inside the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach and reducing traffic congestion on area freeways. 2. ITA Quarterly Update to Annual List of Foreign Subsidies on Cheese
The International Trade Administration (ITA), in consultation with the Secretary of Agriculture, has prepared its quarterly update to the annual list of foreign government subsidies on articles of cheese subject to an in-quota rate of duty during the period April 1, 2005 through June 31, 2005. The ITA states that it is publishing the current listing of those subsidies that it has determined exist. 3. Coast Guard's National Maritime Security Advisory Committee to Meet
The Coast Guard has issued a notice announcing that its National Maritime Security Advisory Committee (NMSAC) will hold a meeting to discuss various issues relating to national maritime security. The meeting will be open to the public and will take place on November 1, 2005 in Arlington, VA. 4. CPSC Seeks Comments on Petition to Amend Infant Pillow Ban
The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued a notice announcing that it has received a petition (HP 05-1) requesting that the ban on infant pillows be amended to permit the use of such pillows if they are designed, intended and promoted for nursing, and when such pillows are requested by a pediatrician or board certified lactation consultant. Written comments on the petition must be received by December 12, 2005. 5. FDA Issues Temporary Permit to Test Certain Bottled Iceberg Water
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a temporary permit, effective for 15 months from the date the product "Canada's Original Iceberg Water" is introduced, or caused to be introduced, into interstate commerce (but no later than January 3, 2006), to allow the applicant to measure consumer acceptance, identify mass production problems, etc. According to FDA, this product deviates from the U.S. standard of identity for bottled water as the source of the water is an iceberg. 6. BIS Renews for 180 Days the Temporary Order Denying Export Privileges to Gold Technology, Hero Peak Ltd., Etc.
The Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) has issued a notice containing its order which, effective September 11, 2005, renews for 180 days its temporary denial of certain export privileges of Gold Technology Limited, HK; Hero Peak Limited, HK; Joanna Liu, HK; Oriental Trading Corporation, Pakistan; Portson Trading Limited, HK; and Zhenke International Trading Co., Ltd., China; for violations regarding the illegal export to Pakistan of items controlled for nuclear non-proliferation purposes.
