1. CBP Announces Changes Regarding HTS Numbers in the QP70 Record

According to CBP, the HTS number in the QP70 record as defined in the Customs and Trade Automated Interface Requirements (CATAIR) is as follows: The code located in the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States Annotated (HTS) that represents the tariff number. Left justify the number and fill any remaining positions with zeros (0). Only the first six digits of the code are mandatory. If the entire 11-digit code is known it should be submitted.

CBP states that these are the only two acceptable formats for the input of the HTS number. According to CBP, if a filer is supplying the six (6) digit number the remaining places must be zero filled. In both cases the number will be validated against the Harmonized Table.
