CBP Posts Report on Recent ACE Release 5 Workshops on Drawback, IASS, Redelivery, and Prior Disclosure
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has posted to its Web site a new "Trade Engagement Biweekly Report" which summarizes topics discussed during workshops held to develop the business requirements for Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) Release 5. (These workshops are attended by members of the Trade Support Network (TSN), called Trade Ambassadors, who are importers, brokers, carriers, and other members of the trade community.) Drawback and Import Activity Summary Statement - March 8, 2005. CBP states that during these two workshops, the groups reviewed a September 2004 Drawback Concept paper written by the TSN Drawback Subcommittee, and an October 2004 Import Activity Summary Statement (IASS) Concept Paper developed by the TSN Entry Committee to see if any of the underlying concepts for the envisioned processes have impact on Release 5.
(CBP notes that although ACE Release 5 will not include any drawback or IASS functionality, the workshop sessions were held to ensure that as plans are made for Release 5 programming with respect to entry summary that nothing will be prohibitive in any way to the implementation of drawback and IASS in ACE Release 7.)
Redelivery - March 9, 2005. According to the report, the goal of the redelivery workshop was to complete the business process "decomposition" of the redelivery process to determine if there are any additional areas within it that can be improved via automation in ACE Release 5.
Prior Disclosure - March 10, 2005. According to the report, this workshop session focused on the financial accounting impact of prior disclosure. The report is based on the review of the prior disclosure process flow and lists the key triggers to the prior disclosure process.
