FWS Reminder on Argentina's Trade Restrictions for Certain Wildlife Species
The Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) has issued a notice that provides information on Argentina's trade restrictions for certain wildlife species. Pursuant to the Lacey Act, the FWS states it will assist Argentina in ensuring that wildlife traded between the U.S. and Argentina complies with the wildlife trade requirements put in place by Argentina.

Argentina Prohibits the Export of Live Native Species, with Certain Exceptions
According to FWS, on March 14, 1986, export of all live specimens of species of mammals, birds, and reptiles native to Argentina was prohibited, except for:
(a) Specimens of species subject to management plans and export quotas, namely: Amazona aestiva, Aratinga acuticaudata, Aratinga mitrata, Myiopsitta monachus, Nandayus nenday, Pionus maximiliani;
(b) Specimens bred in captivity in registered operations;
(c) Specimens of species considered as pests or harmful under current legislation;
(d) Pets, in accordance with current regulations; and
(e) Specimens for zoological, cultural, or educational exhibitions.
FWS states that specimens of species covered by (b) - (e) above may be exported after the Argentine Management Authority has verified on a case-by-case basis that the export is in conformity with current national legislation and issued a CITES permit.
Additional Species for Which Export of Live Specimens, Products & Derivatives is Prohibited
In addition, FWS states that Argentina's Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock and Fishery has prohibited the export of live specimens of the following species as well as products and derivatives thereof:
(a) Through Resolution No. 63 of March 14, 1986: Herpailurus yaguarondi ( = Felis yaguarondi); Leopardus tigrinus ( = Felis tigrina); Leopardus pardalis ( = Felis pardalis); Leopardus wiedii ( = Felis wiedii); Oncifelis colocolo ( = Felis colocolo); Oncifelis geoffroyi ( = Felis geoffroyi); Oncifelis guigna ( = Felis guigna); Oreailurus jacobita ( = Felis jacobita); Panthera onca concolor ( = Felis concolor);
(b) Through Resolution No. 793 of November 6, 1987: Caiman yacare ( = Caiman crocodilus yacare); Catagonus wagner; Cerdocyon thous ( = Canis/dusicyon thous); Conepatus chinga (non-CITES listed); Conepatus humboldtii ( = Conepatus castaneus); Conepatus rex (non-CITES listed); Pecari tajacu ( = Dicotiles/Tayassu tajacu); Pseudalopex gymnocercus ( = Canis/Dusicyon gymnocercus); Speothos vinagre (non-CITES listed); Tayassu albirotris.
FWS notes that specimens of Caiman latirostris may be exported only if they are from ranching operations.
