Census Posts Updated List of HTS Numbers That Cannot be Used in AES
The Census Bureau has posted to its Web site a list of 186 Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) numbers that are invalid for use in the Automated Export System (AES) as of January 1, 2005.

These 186 HTS numbers cover various articles in HTS Chapters 2, 3, 5, 7, 10, 12, 16, 17, 19, 24, 27, 39, 52, 74, 84, 85, 88, and 90.
In addition, Census sources state that exporters attempting to put these HTS numbers into AES or AESDirect (Census' Web-based system that allows filers to electronically file export information with AES at no charge) will have their shipments rejected.
Census' January 1, 2005 Reflects the Addition and Deletion of HTS Numbers
Census' updated January 1, 2005 list of HTS numbers that are not invalid for use in AES reflect the:
addition of HTS 1005.90.4060, 7404.00.3020, 7404.00.3045, 7404.00.3055, 7404.00.3065, 7404.00.3090, 7404.00.6020, 7404.00.6045, 7404.00.6055, 7404.00.6065, and 7404.00.6090; and
deletion of HTS 2710.11.1519 and 8108.20.0091, which were on Census' July 1, 2004 list.
Schedule B Numbers Must be Used for Articles Covered by the 186 HTS Numbers
Census sources state that for articles covered by these 186 HTS numbers, exporters must instead use the associated Schedule B numbers.
List of HTS Numbers That are Invalid for Use in AES is Updated Periodically
According to previous Census statements, the list of HTS numbers that are invalid for use in AES is updated periodically (e.g., to reflect changes in the HTS, etc.).
