2. Miami Air Cargo Failing Customs Advance Manifest Standards

The Journal of Commerce Online reports that more than half of the airlines carrying cargo on international flights into Miami International airport have failed to install computerized automatic manifest systems that will be necessary to unload cargo with special clearance after August 13, 2004. 3. U.S. Cancels Air Passenger Screening Upgrade

Reuters states that according to DHS Secretary Tom Ridge, the U.S. government is dropping the controversial Computer Assisted Passenger Prescreening System, known as CAPPS II, that would have collected personal data on airline passengers to assess security risks, because of privacy concerns and criticism from some members of Congress. 4. DHS Fact Sheet on Partnering with American Entrepreneurs in Developing New Homeland Security Technologies

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has issued a fact sheet regarding the application and evaluation process for the DHS interim rule which implements the Support Anti-Terrorism by Fostering Effective Technologies (SAFETY) Act of 2002. DHS states that the SAFETY Act of 2002 is designed to provider sellers of qualified anti-terrorism technologies with liability protection from lawsuits. 5. BIS Updates its Web Site Country Code for Yugoslavia (Now Serbia and Montenegro)

The Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) has updated the country code for Yugoslavia on its Web site. According to BIS, Yugoslavia is now Serbia and Montenegro under the "CS" country code. BIS notes that this change accounted for the July 13, 2004 modification date for the Denied Persons List (DPL) and that no changes were made to the actual DPL data.
