It is Now Uncertain Whether Poland's Textile and Apparel Visa Requirements Will be Cancelled or Remain in Effect As of May 1, 2004
On April 6, 2004, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) issued notices announcing that effective May 1, 2004, the existing textile and apparel visa requirements for Poland are being canceled. Sources had stated that the visa requirements were being cancelled at the request of Poland, due to its accession to the European Union (EU) on May 1, 2004.

U.S. government sources now state that the posting by CBP of those notices was premature and that it is uncertain whether Poland's visa requirements will be cancelled or remain in effect as of May 1, 2004.
Importers Should Continue to Obtain Visas Until Further NoticeAccording to U.S. government sources, due to the uncertainty regarding the continuation of Poland's visa requirements, importers of textiles and apparel from Poland should continue to obtain visas for cats 335, 338/339, 410, 433, 434, 435, 443, 611, and 645/646 until further notice.
(CBP has previously stated that the status of Poland's visa requirements does not affect the quotas on cats 335, 338/339, 410, 433, 434, 435, 443, 611, and 645/646, which remain in effect through December 31, 2004.)
